Originally commissioned by mac Birmingham and Apples & Snakes for a scratch performance night, the narrative poem, Eden Reborn, is an eco-feminist, reimagining of the Myth of Eden in response to Ted Hughes’ Theology. Likened to the work of Angela Carter, the poem takes a dark look at the role of women through time and the effects of colonialist and capitalist behaviours on people and the environment.
Since its original showing in 2013, the poem has been reworked by writer, Elisabeth Charis, in close collaboration with editors, Inua Ellams and Hannah Silva; acclaimed animator, Emma Reading; award winning musician/composer, Steve Tromans; renowned percussionist, Mark Robertson, and sound artist, Soesen Eden. The finished piece is a negotiation of music, animation, sound and language exploring how stories respond to and create cultural identities.
